Description: SHARPE of LONDON BELT Pistol .56 Caliber PERCUSSION Self Defense 1830s Cap English Maker Known for his “FUR TRADE” Pistols Here we present an antique Sharpe of London Percussion Pistol, made circa the late 1830s in Birmingham, England. This pistol features a large .56 caliber “manstopping” bore that would have been worn on the belt or holstered as it was possibly carried into battle. This is a neat old pistol and one can easily imagine the sight of its gaping bore would certainly be a deterrent to would be scoundrels. This London Gun maker "SHARPE" was in business from 1800 until 1840. Initially he contracted with the Hudson Bay Company to supply good quality Flintlock pistols that were traded to the Indigenous Red Indians in exchange for fur pelts that were eagerly desired in the European Fashion Trade. It also bears two proof marks, including the definitive Birmingham Black Powder Proof. The Lock Plate is also stamped Sharpe and the pistol comes with a wooden ram rod. The overall condition is good. Weathered exterior. The action is strong. The bore is smooth and patinated. The stock is solid, though there is a stable crack on the left side. Own the original!
