Description: HESSIAN Antique TARGET Pistol by G&W PISTOR Beautifully Made GERMAN Muzzle Loading Pistol Here we present an antique G. & W. Pistor Percussion Target Pistol, made circa 1840 in Schmalkalden, now in Germany. Brothers Georg and Wilhelm Pistor were part of the Pistor family of gunmakers and were active together crafting fine arms in the 1830s to 1850s in Schmalkalden in what is now the Free State of Thuringia in central Germany. The barrel is marked "G. & W. PISTOR and has dovetailed German silver blade front sights. The lock is marked "G. & W. PISTOR/SCHMALKALDEN." This pistol features fine scroll engraving on the lock and the German silver hardware. The stock is heavily fluted at the grip and is tipped in horn. The ramrod would have been tipped in horn as well. The trigger guard is equipped with a finger rest and the lock with a guard for the percussion nipple, a neat safety feature. The overall condition is very good. The iron parts bear traces of the original blue finish with faint case colors visible and a dark gray patina overall. The markings are clear. The stock is in great shape. The bore is in very good condition with sharp rifling. The action is also strong. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
