G & W Pistor German Percussion Pistol
Description: All original, fine old German-built percussion pistol from the Pistor dynasty that produced military firearms from the 18th century onward at their arsenal in Schmalkalden in Saxony, and also produced fine commercial firearms like this one….built sometime during the 19th century. This finely detailed pistol has an 8.5” octagonal barrel, approximate .40 caliber. Bore is good with strong rifling. Overall length, 15 inches. Front and rear sights. Matching wood ramrod. Lock plate engraved with “G. & W. Pistor in Schmalkalden”, and “G. & W. Pistor” engraved on top flat of barrel. Also, “PATENTROHR” engraved on top of receiver end of barrel adjacent to the hammer. Rohr translates as tube or pipe, therefore PATENTROHR apparently means patented barrel. The metal medallion in the stock behind the tang bears a raised crown and coat of arms, no doubt reflecting the Pistor heritage and royal appointment. Serial number 7542 is engraved in the butt cap. Finely detailed engraving is present on the lock plate, hammer, and almost all the bright finished metal - German silver - furniture. Action is very tight but hammer does not hold at full cock. Note the unique hammer stop that allows the hammer to rest safely at half cock position. Stock is solid with no cracks and nicely checkered at the wrist. Condition is evident in the photos. Antique – no FFL needed. This is a collectible antique firearm and not warranted safe for shooting. Purchaser assumes all risks and should have a qualified gunsmith inspect the firearm before attempting to fire live ammunition. Shipping and insurance are additional cost. UPS ground service is available to the contiguous USA for $45 plus insurance. Alaska and Hawaii are additional cost. 3-Day Inspection period applies to purchases at list price. Upon return of the firearm in purchased condition with all parts and accessories, purchase price will be refunded less shipping/handling/insurance costs. SOLD Antique: Yes |
