PRE-1813 PROOFS Turn of the Century Officers Pistol
Description: ENGRAVED Late 1700s / Early 1800s Antique KETLAND Percussion Conv. Pistol PRE-1813 PROOFS Turn of the Century Officers Pistol Here we present an antique Ketland marked Percussion Conversion Pistol, made circa the late 1700s to early 1800s in turn of the century England. This example would have started out life as a flintlock and converted when the more reliable percussion firing system was introduced. Thomas Ketland & Co. was a firearms manufacturer founded in Birmingham, England somewhere around 1760. Thomas Ketland Sr. was a highly successful Birmingham gunmaker. He started his business around 1760 and expanded into the export market around 1790. He died in 1816. The business carried on until bankruptcy in 1821. The company manufactured flintlock pistols, becoming quite successful in its field. This pistol would have likely belonged to a military officer during this period. The barrel is round with a beautiful full-length walnut stock, and the engravings on the brass are reserved yet handsome. If only this gun could tell us some stories. The overall condition is good.
