AUSTRIAN MILITARY FIREARMS Martial HORSE Pistol
Description: c1863 mfr. Antique AUSTRIAN Model 1862 CAVALRY .54 Cal Percussion Pistol AUSTRIAN MILITARY FIREARMS Martial HORSE Pistol Here we present an antique Austrian Kavalleriepistole M1862, or Cavalry Pistol Model 1862 Percussion Pistol made circa 1863 in Austria. This “Horse Pistol” was an improved version of the Model 1860 pistol. These large, single shot, percussion muzzleloading rifled pistols were roughly 16” in overall length with 10 3/8” barrels that were 13.9mm (.547) caliber and weighed in at a hefty 3 pounds 3 ounces. The bores were rifled with four grooves with a right hand twist, as were the Lorenz pattern rifle muskets. The barrels were secured to the stock with a single screw through the breech plug tang and a single screw-retained barrel band that resembled the nose cap of a Lorenz rifle musket. All of the furniture is made of iron. The contractors who produced these pistols were often marked on the top of the barrel, and a variety of Austrian proof and inspection marks are often found at the breech, as well as various unit markings in various locations. The guns were finished “bright” and stocked in the usual Austrian beech. The pistol is well marked on the lock with a crisp and clear Austrian Eagle to the rear of the lock plate and the date “863” for 1863 clearly stamped forward of the hammer. The top of the barrel is marked “TH SEDERL”, the mark of Austrian gunmaker Thomas Sederl who worked in Vienna circa 1854 through 1882. The left breech bears the Austrian k.k. Army (EAGLE) and “W” acceptance mark, as well as the depressed cartouche “R” and “J” inspection marks, and what appears to be the unit marking of 3/121, suggesting that this was for the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, Weapon #121. The overall condition is good. Patina throughout. The action is excellent. The bore is in very good condition with sharp rifling. The stock shows use. There is a stable split just behind the lock and a repaired crack near the pommel. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 10-3/8 inches. Caliber: .54 percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
