AUSTRIAN Antique Model 1859 Lorenz CAVALRY Pistol
Description: AUSTRIAN Antique Model 1859 Lorenz CAVALRY Pistol Maker Marked “L. WURZINGER” Horse Pistol Here we present an antique Austro-Hungarian Model 1859 Lorenz Percussion Cavalry Pistol, made in 1864 in Vienna, Austria. This pistol is quite large and were meant to be used from a horse by hussars, dragoons or cavalry. A horse soldier would have carried two of these in connected holsters that draped over the pommel of his saddle. The 1860s were an eventful time for Austria. After having defeated Austria in 1859 during the Franco-Austrian War, Napoleon III sought to invade Mexico and set up Maximillian I—of the royal house of Austria, the Hapsburgs—as Emperor of Mexico. This was his way to soothe the bitter taste of the Austrians after their defeat and simultaneously rule through his surrogate. The invasion was successful, and Maximillian arrived in Mexico in 1864, but the Republican opposition was fierce and fighting continued to the detriment of the Imperialists. Austrian volunteers participated in the fighting, but once the French troops were pulled out (Napoleon had shifted his priorities), the rout was on and Maximillian was executed. Other notable Austrian conflicts of the time were the Second Schleswig War and the Third Italian War for Independence. This pistol is marked with the Austrian double headed eagle at the rear of the lock and “864” meaning that is was made in 1864. The top of the barrel is marked with the maker’s name “L. WURZINGER”. The left side of the stock is also marked “WURZINGER/WIEN (VIENNA)”. Proof and acceptance marks are located on the left side of the barrel. The overall condition is near fine. The metal surfaces have a smooth patina. The markings are clear and legible. The bore is in great shape with sharp rifling. The stock shows some normal handling and remains in nice condition. The action on this pistol is excellent. Here is an excellent example of an 1860s Austro-Hungarian Horse Pistol! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 9 inches. Caliber: .56 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
