This large Austrian Augustin tube lock cavalry pistol with provision for a shoulder stock was made in 1844 (lock marked 844). The overall length is approx. 18.5"". The approx. 13.2"" round 73 caliber smooth bore barrel has a fair bore with roughness. It is equipped with a blade front sight. The block rear sight is on the barrel tang. All the metal has a smooth gray-brown patina. The only markings are the 844 on the lock center and a small proof mark at the tail. The Augustin tube lock mechanism is complete. The saddle ring and bar and ramrod are present. The dark finished (approx. 98% finish remains) beech stock is good with a repaired chip at the butt forward toe, a possible repaired crack from the front band spring to the lock on the right, and with sharp edges and a pleasing overall appearance. The action functions correctly. If you need an example of the Auustin tube lock or an Austrian cavalry pistol, this would be a great fit for your collection.
