Early American CONSTABLE of PHILADELPHIA Pistol
Description: Early American CONSTABLE of PHILADELPHIA Pistol Antique Brass Flintlock Pistol Circa 1817 Here we present an antique Constable of Philadelphia Flintlock Pistol, made circa 1817. This pistol was made for self-defense in the newly established republic. Its small overall size, large bore size, and screw off barrel made it very concealable and efficient. The ability to unthread the barrel made a ramrod unnecessary and allowed the user to load a larger ball for a better gas seal, rather than pushing a smaller ball down from the muzzle. Richard Constable was a gun maker and dealer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, active from 1817 to 1851. He made military style pistols, duelers and pistols for the civilian market. Like many gun makers and dealers of the time, he imported parts and who guns, especially from England. This specimen’s frame and barrel are made of solid brass, the original “gun metal”. The frame is engraved and marked “CONSTABLE” and “PHILADELPHIA”. The bottom of the frame bears British proofs. The barrel and frame are each numbered “3”. The overall condition is fine. The brass is very attractive. The markings are clear and legible. The walnut grip is smooth and solid. The bore is smooth. The action is strong. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 1-1/2 inches in length. Caliber: .47 Bore is in very good condition. The firing mechanism is excellent. Overall condition as seen in photos. Here is a beautiful brass flintlock pistol, made in England, and sold in Philadelphia in the early years of the United States. Very Fast. Very Safe.
