Early 19th Century HOLSTER Pistol

Here we present an antique British Flintlock Holster Pistol, made circa the early-19th Century. Then, as now, rifles and muskets were the primary arm of the day, useful for everything from hunting to combat. Pistols were certainly not as numerous but still very useful for combat since most firearms at this time were limited to a single shot. Imagine if one discharged their single shot firearm only to miss or have another enemy close the distance. A man expecting trouble might carry as many pistols on his person as he could. According to some estimates, European rifles were made at a ratio of 250:1 over pistols, making these rare and highly coveted.

This pistol is fairly large and has a .57 caliber bore. This classic flint pistol would have been most at home in a saddle mounted pommel holster when not punching large holes. This would have been the type of pistol an officer purchased on his own to bring to battle in case he was to come into contact with the enemy.

Dark patina. The action is not functional and does not have mainspring tension. The bore is dim and smooth. The stock shows lots of use and remains solid.
