Napoleonic Wars Pistol Dated “1801”
Here we present an antique New Land Pattern British Cavalry Flintlock Pistol, made circa 1801. Introduced in 1796 and in widespread production by 1802, the New Land Cavalry Pistol provided one model of pistol for all of Britain's cavalry units such as the Royal Horse Artillery. It was equipped with a captive swivel ramrod so that it would not be lost while reloading on the back of a horse. These would have seen use by the cavalry in the Napoleonic Wars from 1803 to 1815. The famous East India Company made many of these for British Cavalry serving in India, who in turn brought them into service elsewhere in the world.
This one bears an acceptance marking dated “1801”. The lock is marked with the royal cipher of King George III: “GR” under a crown for Georgius Rex.
Overall condition is fine. The markings are clear. The stock is in great shape with clear markings. The bore is smooth and clean. The action is excellent. Here is a wonderful pistol representing the Napoleonic Wars and British Colonialism!
