Antique J. HENRY Marked MILITARY Style .55 FLINTLOCK Horse/Holster Pistol
Early 1800s Full Size FLINTLOCK .55 Caliber Pistol
Description: Antique J. HENRY Marked MILITARY Style .55 FLINTLOCK Horse/Holster Pistol Early 1800s Full Size FLINTLOCK .55 Caliber Pistol Here we present an antique J. Henry Marked Flintlock Horse/Holster Pistol, made circa the early 1800s. This pistol is full-sized, made for wearing on a belt or carrying on the pommel holster of a horse. Then, as now, rifles and muskets were the primary arm of the day, useful for everything from hunting to combat. Pistols were certainly not as numerous but still very useful for combat since most firearms at this time were limited to a single shot. Imagine if one discharged their single shot firearm only to miss or have another enemy close the distance. A man expecting trouble might carry as many pistols on his person as he could. The true flintlock continued to be in common use for over two centuries, replaced by percussion cap and, later, the cartridge-based systems in the early-to-mid 19th century. This pistol features a large .55 caliber bore, typical of a military small arm of the period. The pommel is a flat one with a lanyard ring and a captive ramrod. This would have likely been one of the last large, smooth bore flintlock pistols to be made for official service before pistols in the percussion firing system and then shortly after cartridge firearms were introduced and adopted. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. The wrist has been repaired, but remains stable. Legible markings. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 10-1/8 inches. Caliber: .55 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPINGWORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1600 #230368 SOLD Antique: Yes |
