Antique A.H. WATERS M1836 DRAGOON .54 Caliber CONVERSION Pistol
MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR Percussion Pistol Dated 1838
Description: Antique A.H. WATERS M1836 DRAGOON .54 Caliber CONVERSION Pistol MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR Percussion Pistol Dated 1838 Here we present an antique Asa H. Waters U.S. Model 1836 Pistol, made in 1838. This pistol would have started out life as a flintlock and had a period conversion as the new percussion technology developed. There were actually two manufacturers of these guns: Asa Waters and Robert Johnson. Combined, the production totals were 41,000 guns. This was the last U.S. martial pistol to use the flintlock system, and many consider this the best of all U.S. flint guns due to its craftsmanship and aesthetic appeal. The gun is historically significant as this was the primary issue pistol during the Mexican American War (1846-1848)and was even significantly used during the American Civil War (1861-1865), especially in this percussion converted format. The lock plate is roll-stamped with an eagle head above “A. WATERS/MILBURY. MS./1838” in three lines. There is a single letter inspection mark also on the lock. Many of these were lost to attrition during the various conflicts listed above, and many were converted for use, as is this one, by the North & South during the Civil War. This one saw a fairly crude conversion with a filed out flash pan, percussion bolster, and a commercial type hammer. The additional stamp with what appears to be a script “S” may be from the conversion. The overall condition is fair. The action is not presently functional, though it will hold half- and full-cock positions. The bore is smooth and dim. The stock has a chip off the back of the lock, one in front of the lock, and one on the opposite side. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 8-1/2 inches. Caliber: .54 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
