Description: Antique 1700s Ornate CAUCASIAN Style .64 Caliber FLINTLOCK DRAGOON Pistol 18th Century Engraved and Carved OTTOMAN Horse Pistol Here we present an antique Caucasian/Ottoman Flintlock Horse Pistol. This pistol was made in the 1700s for military applications on horseback. The firearm is thoroughly decorated by hand on the entirety of its wood and metal surfaces. The designs on the wood are relief carved. The pistol features a very long barrel, as is common for troops fighting on horses, and the butt-cap is solid and heavy as one would expect for a single shot weapon of the time period. When one did not have time to reload, one reversed the grip and swung for skull. This style of flintlock was popular throughout the Ottoman Empire from the seventeenth into the early twentieth century. Several elaborately decorated guns very similar to this example are still preserved in Istanbul, possibly made for the Ottoman Imperial guard. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. There is a crack present on the right side of the forend that remains stable and immobile. Most metal parts a lightly engraved. Own the original!
