1770s DUBLIN CASTLE Irish LIGHT DRAGOON FLINTLOCK Pistol .69 Caliber RARE
18th Century British Martial Sidearm!
Description: 1770s DUBLIN CASTLE Irish LIGHT DRAGOON FLINTLOCK Pistol .69 Caliber RARE 18th Century British Martial Sidearm! Here we present an antique English Dublin Castle Light Dragoon Flintlock Pistol, made circa 1770 in Ireland. From 1204 until 1922 Dublin Castle was the seat of English, and later British rule in Ireland. During that time, it served principally as a residence for the British monarch’s Irish representative, the Viceroy of Ireland, and as a ceremonial and administrative center. The Castle was originally developed as a medieval fortress under the orders of King John of England. It had four corner towers linked by high curtain walls and was built around a large central enclosure. This fine martial flintlock pistol falls right between the Model of 1756 with the “rounded” brass elongated side plate, and the Model 1777 with the “flat” elongated side plate together with a belt hook. Clearly a transitional model very possibly shipped to Boston with the Irish Garrison that occupied the city during the early years of the American Revolutionary War. This example has a 9-1/8 inch .69 caliber barrel and is marked with the British royal cipher: a CROWN over G.R. for Georgius Rex (King George III), and DUBLIN CASTLE across the tail. Dublin Castle flintlocks are extremely rare with Light Dragoon Pistols being among the very hardest to find, according to the book “BRITISH CAVALRY CARBINES & PISTOLS OF THE NAPOLEONIC ERA” by Barry Chisnall and Geoffrey Davies published in 2013, pages 144 and 145. The overall condition is very good. Excellent action that will spark. The bore is smooth and in good shape. Solid and stable stock all around with minor slivering along the forward part of the stock—this is old and stable. There is an Irish gun registration marked that is stamped atop the barrel. A wonderful piece that covers Irish, British, and colonial history! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 9-1/8 inches. Caliber: .69 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $3865 #210629 SOLD Antique: Yes |
