Chinese Tokarev used in fatal self-defense shooting

This is an interesting ChiCom 7.62x25 Tokarev M20 made in China during the 1950’s. Appears to have been a prototype Vietnam War bring back.
On July 18th, 1984 it was in the possession of a twenty-three year old jewelry dealer in West Palm Beach, Florida. He maintained a booth in a local flea market, and dealt a lot in gold and silver jewelry. In the weeks leading up to the night of July 18th he had noticed several suspicious people scoping out his booth at the flea market. On the evening of the 18th at approximately 9:00pm he answered a knock at the door of his home in West Palm Beach and two males he didn’t recognize forced their way in. He’d answered the door with a semi-automatic ChiCom Tokarev in his hand and as the robbers came charging through the door in a football tackle the jewelry dealer shot one of them once in the upper back, causing him to immediately drop to the floor. He tried to fire again, but the ammunition in the Tokarev was European Military Surplus, and the gun jammed. While the jewelry dealer ran to get a shotgun the second burglar dragged his dying accomplice out to a waiting Mercedes Benz 450SL and immediately squealed out of the driveway in a hail of gunfire. Police were nearby and the Mercedes was seen to turn into a large dark open development area behind some stores where the deceased burglar was pushed from the car. The other burglar abandoned the Mercedes and hid out overnight in a swampy area of the development where he was ultimately arrested.
Both burglars were found to have duct tape on their fingers to avoid leaving finger prints. Oddly, the Mercedes belonged to one of the burglar’s female lawyer. He told police he had taken it without her knowledge.
The young jewelry dealer was not charged and his gun was not taken by police.
In the mid-1990’s the jewelry dealer moved to Ohio. His girlfriend at the time did not like having the gun around and I ultimately bought it from him.
The gun comes with a number of pages of police reports regarding the incident that were given to the jewelry dealer.
As to the pistol itself, it is one of the M20 Tokarevs furnished to the North Vietnamese Army that had an 8 digit long serial number, which was done in the hopes of convincing the Americans that there were millions of the these guns coming into use by the NVA. in truth, only the last four digits of the serial number mean anything. This gun is numbered below four thousand, and shows the serial number on the left side of the frame and also on the top of the slide where it is marked M20.
A fascinating piece in and of itself, and with a fascinating history of actual self defense use.
I have had this pistol for nearly thirty years and am now dissipating my collection. Please no trade offers.
