Singer 1911A1
Description: Singer Mft., 1911-A1, Serial number S800230 in 45 ACP. The Singer Manufacturing Co. produced a total of 500 pistols under Educational Order W-ORD-396 dated April 17, 1940. The finished pistols were posted in Ordnance procurement records in December, 1941. They were shipped to Springfield Armory and most distributed to the Army Air Corps. These pistols are serial numbered S800001 to S800500 and exhibit a high gloss Du-lite blue finish with overall excellent tolerances. Distinctive Features are: The left side of the slide is marked: "S. MFG. CO. / ELIZABETH, N.J., U.S.A." in two lines just ahead of the slide serrations. The top of the slide is stamped with a "P" proof mark in front of the rear sight and there is a single "P" proof just directly above the magazine catch lock button . The right side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" over serial number with M 1911 A1 U.S. ARMY to the right of the serial number. The left side of the frame is stamped with the initials "JKC" for Col. John K. Clement, Commander of the New York Ordnance District. This pistol still retains all of the original parts including the correct original brown plastic grips made by the Keyes Fibre Co. and the original Singer manufactured barrel with a P proof. This pistol is guaranteed to be an original Singer 1911A1 except for the magazine which is an original Colt WW II issued mag. The pictures show the pistol and its parts in detail except for the bore which is bright with some light pitting along the groves at the base of the lands.
