"Incredibly Rare Grant Hammond Experimental 45 ACP Pistol (PR69229)
Description: "Serial number 5. Made circa 1915-1918. 45 Acp caliber with a 6 ½" barrel. This is a nice sharp gun with approximately 15% of the original blue. The metal was cleaned and probably a lot of the finish during the cleani9ng. The grips are very good. There is a repaired crack on the right hand side grip. Gun works perfectly. These guns were made to compete with the Colt 1911. This pistol was loved by the trial testers for its accuracy and handling, but had issues with the magazine release as well as an overly complicated disassembly compared to the 1911. According to U.S. Military Automatic Pistols 1894-1920 by Edward Scott Meadows, only 13 of these guns were produced this one being serial number 5. We have seen another Grant Hammond serial numbered 18. In any case, this is an incredibly rare opportunity to on an early contender to the Colt 1911!
