This is an original Colt .31 Caliber bullet mold for the Colt Model 1849 Pocket Model revolver made without the sprue cutter. The brass, straight leg, two cavity (one round and one conical) Mold joined by a steel tapered pin and marked "R" on the right block with "Colt's Patent" stamped across both blocks between the hinge pin and funnel. This mold type is shown in Rapley's The History and Identification of Colt Accoutrements 1834-1911 book on page 124 as "M#17". In very good condition the exterior shows numerous marks and contusions from normal use with visible markings and smooth bullet cavities.
