Die stamped, lead filled with bronze wire machine formed belt hooks held by the lead fill. Interesting that while this is a much smaller oval, the letters are considerably bigger than those on the CSA plate. The face has a naturally formed mellow mustard tone with some variations of greens verdigris, and darker spots of tarnish. There is some oxidation to areas of the lead fill, and.the hooks show age toning where they are not covered or splattered with lead. This shows file marks around the edge on the back. I have not seen another like this so am looking for documentation or reference on this. Someone suggested this is a reproduction but there needs to be another in like form to be a reproduction and I cannot locat anything like this on any of the sites that make and sell reproduction Confederate belt plates, so not sure how it is a repro. A fantasy item??? What would be the point of that and that would require a large amount of premanufacture prep and expense to only make one. There are at least six manufacturing processes required to form this buckle at a minimum presuming you started with the sheet brass, a blob of lead and the machine formed wire hooks already in hand.
