Civil War U.S. Model 1850 Staff & Field Officers Sword Identified On Edge Of The Guard To "Lieut. J Hoey, NYC" Of The "71st N.Y. Infantry
Description: An Early Civil War U.S. Model 1850 Staff & Field Officers Sword Identified On The Edge Of The Guard To "Lieut. J Hoey, NYC" Of The "71st N.Y. Infantry" With Very Fine History In Nice Untouched Condition. All original and complete as shown. The sword has a fine blade and original etching. It has an American Eagle & Shield on one side and "US" on the other, along with other "U.S. Military Motifs" & engraving throughout it. It still has lots of original finish on the blade. The original guard, grip, and wire are all fine and untouched. On the edge of the guard on the left side is stamped, "J HOEY/NYC". The original scabbard is fine & untouched throughout. It still retains its brown lacquer on it. All of the brass fittings are fine throughout. Lieut. J. Hoey has very fine history with the "71st N.Y. Infantry'. He enlisted as a private in New Your City on 4/25/1861. On 6/22/1861 he mustered into Co. F. of the regiment. He rose through the ranks all the way up to 2nd Lt. on 9/6/1862 and then to 1st Lieut. on 1/25/1863. He was in many heavy battles with the 71st N.Y. which included, Fair Oaks, VA, Savage Station, Malverne Hill, Bristoe Station, VA, 2nd Bull Run, Fredricksburg, VA, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg, PA. On 7/6/1863 after Gettysburg he left the service as recorded. Further research should be done on this as it is not stated why. This Early Civil War U.S. Model 1850 Staff & Field Officers Sword Identified On The Edge Of The Guard To "Lieut. J Hoey, NYC" Of The "71st N.Y. Infantry" With Very Fine History Would Be A Wonderful Addition To Any Fine Civil War Collection. Civil War Officers Swords With History Like This One Are Very Hard To Come By! SOLD |
