Late 1700's To Early 1800's Fireplace Wood Side Piece With A Full Length Painted Portrait Of Chief Red Jacket On It Wearing His Silver Peace Medal
Description: A Very Early , Unique, & Rare Late 1700's To Early 1800's Fireplace Wood Side Piece With A Full Length Painted Portrait Of Chief Red Jacket On It wearing His Silver Peace Medal That Was Given To Him By "President George Washington" In 1792, In very Fine Untouched Condition. All original & complete. It was bought out of an old estate between Buffalo & Niagra Falls New York. The untouched & very early fireplace side piece is made of three large pieces of a period tree trunk that are assembled together as shown in the fourth photo. The wood side piece measures 26 inches long and 11 inches wide. The early painting of "Chief Red Jacket" Is in very fine condition throughout. It is very detailed throughout with many colors in it and has a wonderful darkened & untouched look to it. The camera flash gives it the look of being brighter than it is. The painting is very detailed and is most likely one of a kind. Chief Red Jacket was born in 1750 & died on January 20, 1830. He was a Seneca Orator & Chief Of The Wolf Clan based in Western New York. On behalf of his nation he negotiated with the new United States after the "American Revolutionary War, when the Seneca as British Allies were forced to cede much land folloeing the defeat of the British. He signed "The treaty Of Canandaigua in 1794. He also helped secure some Seneca territory In New York State, although most of his people had migrated to Canada for the resettlement after "The Paris treaty" In 1792 "Red Jacket" led a delegation of 50 Native American Leaders to Philadelphia. The U.S. President "George Washington" presented him with a special "Peace Medal" which was a large oval of a silverplate engraved with an image of "Washinton" on the right hand side shaking "Red Jacket's Hand". Below was inscribed "George Washington", "Red Jacket", and "1792". This Late 1700's To Early 1800's Painted Portrait Of "Chief Red Jacket" On A Wood Fireplace Sidepiece Is A Wonderful Piece Of Americana With Fantastic History Behind It.
