The Ruger-5.7 Pistol was introduced in December of 2019 to a surprised gun market. It is the first traditionally styled semi-automatic pistol to be chambered for the famous 5.7x28mm cartridge since the Excel Arms MP-57 in 2012. In fact, most of the gun buying public is generally unfamiliar with the MP-57, so for many, the Ruger-5.7 is the first traditional pistol to chambered for the 5.7 cartridge since the original FN Five-Seven pistol introduced to the civilian market as the Five-Seven IOM model in 2004 (prior sales of the standard Five-Seven were restricted to military and law enforcement). The 5.7x28 is an excellent cartridge and bridges the gap between 22 Magnum and the .223 Remington/5.56mm NATO cartridges. It is very effective against varmints and coyote. With the introduction of the Ruger-5.7, gun buyers no longer had to pay over $1000.00 to afford a pistol chambered for the 5.7 round. The success of the Ruger pistol has since resulted in S&W offering their own entry to the 5.7 market as the M&P 5.7. The Ruger-5.7 offers a large number of desirable features. It has excellent ergonomics built around an easy-to-reach trigger, a 1911-style ambidextrous safety, a small but easy-to-use slide release, and a reversible magazine latch.
