Redfield Bear Cub 3-9x40 Rifle Scope **Mfg 1962-1964 - Cool Vintage Scope - Fine Crosshair with Center Dot**

Here we have a vintage and cool Redfield Bear Cub 3-9x40 rifle scope. The Bear Cub line was made during the 1959-1964 timeframe in Denver, CO..   Redfield got into scopes just as a new generation of American hunters was fully embracing the virtues of the optical sight for hunting and target shooting. In 1962 Redfield announced the variable-power Bear Cub 3-9X with a constantly centered non-magnifying reticle. Redfield put the crosshair in the second focal plane, resulting in the size of the reticle remaining constant in relation to the image being viewed, as opposed to first-focal plane European scopes. This particular example has signs of having been previously mounted on the 1" diameter main tube. Otherwise it has some high edge wear and handling marks. The optics are still good and the reticle is a fine crosshair with a center dot. The right horizontal part of the reticle has a small piece of dust attached to it that would not impact shootability or function. The throw lever makes magnification changes quick and easy. This fine Redfield would be a great optic to mount on a period bolt action rifle.
