British Safety Fuze Pistol Mk. II
Description: Serial #157, .38 CF Blank. This is a brass frame pistol with side-swinging breech locked via a spring plunger on the right side. The “barrel" is actually a removable collar for tightening the split-tube inside, used to firmly grip the artillery fuze. The “(Broad Arrow) / WD" marked brass frame has an overall dull yellow-ochre patina with what looks like traces of later Suncorite finish on the sides of the dark hammer. The folded spring belt clip on the left side has been cleaned to streaked, dark gray and the one-piece walnut grip is in fine shape with minor handling marks and small blemishes throughout. The action is tight, and fully functional. These interesting “pistols" were approved in 1880 as an improvement to the Mk. I percussion fuze pistol, and were primarily used to fire large coastal artillery guns and naval rifles. This example is in fine overall condition, and is a rarely seen piece of British ordnance history. SOLD Manufacturer: British Model: Safety Fuze Mk. II Serial Number: 157 Caliber Info: .38 Gauge Info: .38 |
