World War I US M1917 Helmet issued to the American Expeditionary Force 35th Division
Description: The painted emblem on each side of this M1917 helmet indicates it was issued to a member of the 35th Division of the American Expeditionary Force. The 35th, also known as the Santa Fe Division, was organized on August 25, 2017, at Camp Doniphan with troops from the Missouri and Kansas National Guard. The DIvision arrived in France in May, 1918, and fought in several battles, including the Grand Offensive, also known as the Hundred Days Offensive, which began on August 8, 1918, and ended with the Armistice on November 11, 1918. That offensive was the largest, longest, and bloodest engagement of World War I, involving 1.2 million Allied soldiers and resulted in the loss of 26,277 American lives. Future 33rd President of the United States, Harry S Truman, served as a captain in the 35th Division. The M1917 helmet presented here is all original, complete with its liner and chin strap. It is stamped "ZB53" inside, which I have read is a manufacturing code. The helmet is in nice condition with good paint, no cracks or loose or missing rivets. It has a few dents on top, which should be no surprise considering the fighting the 35th participated in. The painted emblem of the 35th Division on either side of the helmet are well defined. The black leather liner is complete as is the leather chin strap, as can be seen in the pictures. This helmet displays very well and would be a nice addition to any collection. Add $30 for insured shipping within the continential United States and Alaska. Please check out the Guns International listings for Jim Jr. to see other WWI and WWII helmets. SOLD |
