Original Model 1872 U.S. Cavalry Holster with Hoffmann Swivel for a 7-1/2" Colt S/A or Smith & Wesson Revolver - .45 Cal. This has the wiping rod pocket which has been removed. This mentioned by the Chief of Ordnance Mar. 4, 1876 that soldiers took it upon themselves to remove the wiping rod pocket. The flap has a very light impression of U.S. The holster is modified by adding a rivet to the swivel to prevent the holster from turning upside down causing loss of pistol. Leather shows crazing and closing tab is original, but has been repaired.
