Fine JOSEPH HARKOM Double Percussion Sporting Gun Case
Description: A fine and high end Joseph Harkom double percussion sporting gun case in oak with Russian leather lining. Joseph Harkom was in business at 32 Princes Street in Edinburgh, the address on the label in the lid of this case, from 1836 to 1869. This fancy case is partitioned for a plethora of loading and cleaning accessories including a powder flask, a shot flask, two turned wood lidded pots for wads, a set of double-ended shot chargers, a cap dispenser, a nipple primer, a matched pair of small and large turnscrews, a matching nipple wrench, a small turned bone or ivory lidded pot for spare nipples, matched hammer nose and nipple recess cleaning tools, a mainspring vise, a three piece cleaning rod, cleaning rod accessories, and sundry other accessories. The flask compartments have false bottoms for additional storage beneath. Three other compartments have removable trays for additional storage beneath as well. The compartment for the matched hammer nose and nipple recess cleaning tools sports a charming turned bone knob. A removable oak slide top box sports a matching turned bone knob. The case is complete and in overall fine condition and it appears to me would benefit tremendously from a mild cleaning of the leather. The label is lovely - it is smaller, the printing is sharp and easily ledgible, the corners and edges (with one minor exception) are sharp, there are no holes, tears, or scuffs, and only minor staining where you would expect from rubbing when closed against the set of double-ended shot chargers and one of the turned wood was pots. The case accommodates 30" barrels, the barrel compartment measuring about 30 1/8", of about 16 bore, the width at the breach being about 2 1/8" and at the muzzle being about 1 1/2". This is the perfect showcase for your Joseph Harkom or other higher end double percussion sporting gun of the right proportions. SOLD |
