Description: Sudanese Kaskara Sword Prior to 18th Century The kaskara is a direct descendant of the European Crusader sword of the Middle Ages. This example features a simple cruciform hilt 7" wide with straight diamond section crossguard and langets. The disc shaped pommel is covered in leather and the grip would have been wrapped with cord. Triple fullered 35 1/2" straight double edged blade stamped with twin man-in-the-moon marks on each side. These marks are believed to be the maker's marks of either Juan Martin (or Martinez) of Spain prior to the 18th century. German manufacturer's are known to have used this mark also in conjunction with the running wolf of Passau. Overall length is 40 1/4".
