KNIGHTS of PYTHIAS Sword w SAMSON Depicted
Description: KNIGHTS of PYTHIAS Sword w SAMSON Depicted Etched with “GEO. W. GRISWOLD” Here we present a Knights of Pythias Ceremonial Sword. The Knights of Pythias is a fraternalanization and secret society founded in Washington, D.C. on February 19, 1864. The Knights of Pythias was the first fraternalanization to receive a charter under an act of the United States Congress. It was founded by Justus H. Rathbone, who has been inspired by a play by the Irish poet John Banim about the legend of Damon and Pythias. This legend illustrated the ideals of loyalty, honor and friendship that are the center of the order. Early in the groups history, when a man was inducted into the Knights of Pythias, he received a ceremonial sword. Such a sword might be given to a Pythian by family members, business associates or others as a token of esteem. In recent decades, rather than require each member to own a sword, the local chapter maintains a collection of swords for use by its members. The hilt and the scabbard are both marked with the Pythian motto acronym “FCB”, which stands for “Friendship, Charity, Benevolence”. Etched on the blade is “Geo. W. Griswold”. The overall condition is very good. The 27-1/2 inch blade bears a beautiful etching and a light gray patina. The guard is in great shape and features an eagle on each end. The wooden grip is in good condition and shows some appropriate wear. The pommel features a knights head and eagle. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $575 #6405.1 SOLD |
