CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE THOMAS LEECH MENPHIS NOVELTY WORKS CAVALRY SWORD MARKED MENPHIS
Description: PRESERVING AMERICAN CIVIL WAR HISTORY, CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE THOMAS LEECH MEMPHIS NOVELTY WORKS CAVALRY SWORD MARKED MEMPHIS. THOMAS LEECH MADE SWORDS UNTIL 1863 AND MADE AND ASSEMBLED SWORDS IN 3 DIFFERENT LOCATIONS, MEMPHIS TENNESSEE, COLUMBUS, MISSISIPI AND GREESBORO, GEORGIA. VERY RARE SWORD ESPACIALLY WITH THE ORIGINAL CONFEDERATE MADE SCABBARD. WHEN YOU BUY THE BEST YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO MAKE EXCUSES LATER. This is a cool Confederate piece! It is an original Confederate enlisted man's cavalry saber made by the famous firm of Memphis Novelty Works. The sword is very well marked and also has the very distinctive manufacturing characteristics of a Memphis made sword. The Memphis made swords were made by the firm of Thomas Leech & Company. If you notice the hand guard where your thumb would rest is distinctively flat and smooth on both sides. This is where it has the marking that reads "MEMPHIS / NOVELTY WORKS / THOs LEECH & CO." is stamped. You can only read the "MEMPHIS" but it is nice and clear. Above the marking it has the "81" assembly number that matches the one on the pommel cap side. They also have the large pommel cap that has the wide gap between the top of the pommel and where the guard joins into the cap. This one has nice looking brass all over. The grip of the sword has a wonderful untouched look as you can see. This has the tarred canvas over the wooden core. It also has the original double strand brass wire still tightly wrapped around the handle. The blade has a fine looking tone all over and measures 35-3/4th inches in length. The blade has the single hand forged fuller going down each side of the blade. This is a wonderful piece of Confederate made cavalry history from the Civil War. SOLD |
