CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE OFFICER J C WILSON HOUSTON TEXAS SWORD WITH TEXAS 5 POINT STAR 5 KNOWN EXAMPLES
Description: PRESERVING CIVIL WAR HISTORY, CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE FOOT OFFICER J C WILSON HOUSTON TEXAS SWORD WITH TEXAS 5 POINT STAR, THERE ARE ONLY 5 KNOWN EXAMPLES. FROM THE FAMOUS KEVIN HOFFMAN COLLECTION, THIS ONE IS A MUST HAVE. WHEN YOU BUY THE BEST YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO MAKE EXCUSES LATER. This sword was made by J. C. Wilson, Houston Texas and is extremely rare! There are only 5 known examples of Wilson foot officer’s swords. You must look for certain peculiarities to make the proper identification. First look for the rounded bottom hand guard and no opening for a sword knot, this is common on Wilson swords. Next look at the etching pattern for a checkerboard design at the base of the blade, again a standard pattern used on Wilson swords. These traits exist on this sword, but there is one more symbol that may appear in the etching, and that is a "Texas 5-point star". This sword has a small 5-pointstar within a larger star; it is faint, but visible. The hilt on this sword has great sand-casting flaws and the crude pommel cap is very unusual and not know to any other maker. The grip is 100% original leather and twisted wire, and the blade is held tight with the original red Moroccan leather blade washer. The scabbard is original to the sword, but is believed to have been made in New Orleans because the mounts match others found on Louisiana swords, and since New Orleans is less then 350 miles from Houston, it would not be unusual for parts to be exchanged J. C. Wilson Foot Officer’s are very very rare! SOLD |
