Circa 1870s US Model 1852 USN Naval Officers Sword
Description: Circa 1870s US Model 1852 USN Naval Officers Sword With Leather Scabbard and Portepee Here we present an antique US Model 1852 Navy Officer’s Sword, made circa the 1870s. This sword bears visible resemblance to the Model 1850 Foot Officer’s Sword and is quite ornate. The hilt is cast with floral designs throughout. The pommel bears an eagle surrounded by 13 stars. The quillon is made in the likeness of a sea creature. The guard is marked “USN”. The blade is lightly etched. The grip is wrapped in white rayskin and wire. The ricasso is marked “PROVED”. Knucklebow is adorned with a golden portapee. The overall condition is very good. The blade is 30 inches in length. This sword is beautifully etched in a U.S. naval theme. Anchors, eagles, banners and shields prevail on both sides of the blade. Grip is intact and fine. Scabbard is intact but has a crack in the leather just above the brass fixture at the tip.
