Original Model 1915 Prussian Pickelhaube
Description: The Model 1915 “Mannschaften” Pickelhaube, used by both enlisted men and NCO’s in the Imperial Prussian Line, was the last model of Pickelhaube issued prior to the move to steel helmets in 1916. In accordance with 1915 regulations, these Pickelhaubes were constructed from boiled leather, which was shaped and then lacquered black. The fittings were all made from oxidized steel. Overall, this example has survived in very good condition. The front plate (“wappen”) features a crowned Prussian state eagle clutching a scepter and orb in its claws, over the King's motto, MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND (With God for King and Country, i.e. Prussia). Two small metal loops on the back of the plate insert through two corresponding holes at the front center of the helmet shell. These loops were originally secured inside with two small leather wedges. The leather wedges have not survived and have been replaced with two small wires on the inside. The exterior of the helmet shell is in very good condition, with no distortion of shape and with good retention of finish. The front and rear visors are both well attached with their stitching intact. There is no leather chin strap surviving. The leather crown of the helmet displays a removable vented spike which is fully intact and undented, mounted on a steel baseplate, with the matching attachment plate and mounting clips inside the helmet fully intact. The full interior leather liner is present and is in good condition, including surprisingly the top tie thong which seldom survives. There is an undecipherable stamp on the underside of the rear visor which is either a manufacturer’s stamp or a size identification. My price of $425 includes free shipping. I only accept payment by USPS money order or personal check once cleared. I only ship to recipients within the Continental United States. SOLD |
