Celebrated Outlaw Frank James autograph
Description: Very rare personal autograph of Frank James. On a visit to the James Farm in 1914 a lady, accompanying her daughter and son-in-law on their honeymoon, met the Famous Outlaw Frank James, the older brother of Jesse James, who was then giving guided tours of the Farm for 50 cents. The provenance of the autograph was documented by her son in 1927 on the fist page of the book "The Rise and Fall of Jesse James" by Robertus Love. In the hand written provenance he writes that his mother had close relatives who Frank knew from his days as both a Confederate Guerrilla with Quantrill's Raiders and as an Outlaw. The most interesting close relative mentioned was "James Wakefield" on who's farm Quantrill was captured. The short letter was written in an articulate shape and his mother's calling card was pasted just above the letter. What makes this autograph especially rare is the fact that Frank James would not sign autographs for the public and would not talk about his past with anyone. Obviously Frank took a special liking to this lady and not only talked about his past with her but also signed her calling card for her to give to her son who wrote this letter. He was very smart to write down the history of his mother's visit, it's a great story. This may be the only known autograph that he ever signed for a visitor to the farm. The autograph was signed in old iron ink and has been preserved very well having been closed up in the book all these years. Normally iron ink fades to a brown color when exposed to light over the years. An original early post card of Frank James is included with the autograph. It was postmarked from kansas City / 1918. The original picture was taken in 1914, the same year Frank signed the card for her to give to her son. Also included is a Wild West magazine with a great article titled: "FRANK JAMES / Meaner and Smarter / than Jesse" Cel.# 808-429-7240 Email: gldglwng53aol SOLD |
