Confederate CS waist belt plate, 2-piece, wreath style, smooth wreath, weight 76 grams, exactly as pictured in the "Confederate Belt Buckles & Plates" book by Steve Mullinax (expanded edition), page 36, plate number 051 (see last picture). This is one of a few buckles I'll be listing that were dug by Homer Coles of Virginia in the 1960s and 1970s. It comes from a large batch of Civil War items that a local collector is freeing up slowly as he is getting on in years and wants to move his vast assortment of original items, both Union and Confederate, so stay vigilant as I don't know what he'll release next - he has many boxes and totes filled with pictures, documents, buttons, corps badges, letters and lots more!
The buckle is bent and does not sit flush when assembled - damage is all to the tongue portion. On the rarity scale this is a 9, so one found in any condition is a prize.
