Description: U.S. Civil War Carried Drum Made Between 1861-1862 By "William Hall & Son" With A Wonderful Silver Shield On It Presented To Drum Major John Stephenson Of The "48th N.Y.S. Vols." For His Faithful Service In the War" An Early And Rare U.S. Civil War Carried Drum Made between 1861-1862 By "William Hall & Son" With A Wonderful Silver Shield On it Presented To Drum Major John Stephenson Of The "48th N.Y.S. Vols. For His Faithful Service In The War" In Fine Plus Condition. The early original civil war drum Is fine plus throughout with its original ropes and heads on it. It has a clear Makers label inside which dates it being made between 1861 & 1861. There is a wonderful large silver shield presentation plaque on it. The placque reads the following, "PRESENTED TO MR. JOHN STEPHENSON, BY THE OFFICERS OF THE 48TH N.Y.S. VOL. AS A TESTIMONIAL OF ESTEEM & FOR FAITHFULL SERVICES, SEPT. 1865". Both of the original wood sticks are maker marked. John Stephenson enlisted on 1/9 /1862 into Co. B of the 'Enfans Perdus NY Infantry Battn." and transferred into Co. B. N.Y. 48th Infantry. He mustered out on 9/1/1865 at Raleigh NC. He definitely carried this drum starting in Jan. 1862 and kept it right through the war until he mustered out in Sept. 1865. He was active in many battles throughout his service in both regiments. The regiments fought mainly in Virginia and had many casualties. He was presented the wonderful presentation placque on his wartime drum for his faithfull service in the war by his officers. His battles included "MORRIS ISLAND, SC, DREWRY'S BLUFF VA, BERMUDA HUNDRED, VA, COLD HARBOR, VA, PETERSBURG, VA, DEEP BOTTOM RUN, VA, FORT FISHER, NC, & WILMINGTON, NC. All Documentation Comes With The Drum. This Is A Wonderful Example Of A U.S Presentation Civil War Drum That Has Wonderful Battle History In The Civil War SOLD |
