Massive American Civil War Confederate D Guard Bowie Knife 16" Clip Point Blade Early 1860's Southern Fighting Knife Battle Damage
Description: Rare Massive American Civil War Confederate D Guard Bowie Knife, circa early 1860's. This is probably the best Confederate D Guard we have offered, the look and feel in person is just fantastic. It is entirely hand forged of good quality iron and measures just over 20 ¼" long overall with a 16" clipped point blade. The spine is 3/16" thick tapering to a sharpened edge with sharpened clip. There are a few very small nicks along the edges from opposing blades with one rounded chip about midway which fits the contour of a musket barrel. This knife definitely saw action and may have even been an early battlefield pickup. Wood handle shows very heavy wear with large cracks and repairs but is firm in hand. Tang is nicely peened over round on the pommel. Knife is accompanied by a modern made stitched rustic leather sheath for display purposes. The last photo of a seated Confederate soldier shows a nearly identical hilt on an equally large knife (photo is NOT included, original sold by The Horse Soldier of Gettysburg). A very impressive authentic Confederate fighting knife! Provenance: From a Georgia estate.
