Civil War hand carved soldier's Crutch, Peg Leg and one Boot ca. 1860's
Description: CIVIL WAR HAND-CARVED SOLDIER'S CRUTCH, ca. 1860's: In untouched condition and of hand-made folkish style. A peg-fastened yolk wood shaft. Lightly oxidized wooden surfaces and signs of use. Some cracks, no breaks and stable. Overall length, 44". Reference-Frances A. Lord Civil War Collectibles,P.83. Most probably Southern. Has not been not cleaned. Construction-Shaft extends through under arm rest. ONE ONLY RIDING BOOT. Found in the attic, with the crutch and peg leg. Mice have chewed the surface of the boot, but no hole or tears. Included is the original boot stretcher which I have never removed. PEG LEG. Both crutch and peg leg are for a shorter man by today's standards, a typical height for a Civil War Veteran. The wooden peg is well made and likely lathed turned and is classic in its design. The wood is in good using condition with no breaks , cracks or chips. The strap iron support band are complete, needing only the straps to secure the remainder of the leg. Overall length 38 inches to the top of the longest iron strap. The wooden part is 18 1/2 inches. Overall about 45 inches. All items are included in this group. Would be a museum quality display of the aftermath of our Civil War. From the collection of : Doneldon M. Dennis PAYMENT Cash, postal money order, cashiers check, personal & business checks.
