This is a matched serial number drum. the serial number is 1003. This is a first series "New York" drum. The 100 round drum was only made in the first run of the drums. According to records the type "C" 100 round drum was not made after the initial Colt production in 1921. It is estimated that around a thousand were produced. The survival rate was very poor as they were easy to drop or dent. These drums were only sold with the earliest orders for the Colt Thompsons. Many of these drums had the covers mis matched serial numbers to the body. This was easy to do if you had more than one drum and did not take care to match the covers when loading the drums. This Drum is in very fine condition with no dents or other problems. The drum does not show much use or wear. I tested it for feeding and spring tension. This drum works perfectly and correctly. This drum would rate a 98 to 99% condition. This is a extremely rare accessory for the Thompson Collector or collector of early machine guns and their accessories. The ammunition and shell boxes are not included with this drum. For display and illustration only.
