Legendary 1832 Cookbook Universally Used During The 1800's
Description: The Cook’s Own Book: Being a Complete Culinary Encyclopedia, published originally in 1832 by Monroe & Francis, Boston Publishers. bore only “a Boston housekeeper” for an author's name. This substantial reference manual was the virtual bible of recipes and processes for cooking during the mid 19th century. Copies of the book then became lost. Over time the book almost became extinct as an important historical artifact. But a complete copy was ultimately found and reprinted in 1998 in a limited edition by the Rare Book Publishers Press. The complete volume which suvived the test of time and from which the reprint was made possible had been owned by Mary Middleton Rutledge Fogg, a grand daughter of two signers of the American Revolution, and the gold star mother of a fallen son in the Civil War. This limited first edition reprint copy is signed by the Publisher, Edmund B. Stewart, who has kindly inserted a flyleaf inside the cover which details the interesting history of the Fogg family. It contains 379 pages and is in excellent condition. The price is $60, which includes shipping by media mail. SOLD |
