US M5A1 Bayonet with US M8A1 Scabbard for the M1 Garand Rifle
Description:
This listing is for my US M5A1 bayonet made by MILPAR COL. The bayonet is encased in a US M8A1 scabbard made by B-M Co. I have read that the bayonet maker was the Columbus MILPAR Company of Columbus, OH, and the scabbard maker was Beckwith Manufacturing Company. According to my research, MILPAR COL made M5A1 bayonets during the Vietnam War era from April 1962 through 1968. This company also made M6 and M7 bayonets, as well as other military items. The company went out of business in 1970.
The bayonet is in good condition, however the edge has been carefully sharpened without scratching the sides of the blade as is so often seen. The blade retains about 80% of the original parkerized finish with the main wear being where it was slid into and out of the scabbard. The edges of the crossguard only retain about 30% of the original parkerizing. Most of the finish is worn off the release button. The handles are intact and in good condition with no cracks or chips.
The scabbard is in good condition with normal scratches and wear, but no cracks or chips. This is an early scabbard without the metal tip. The crossguard lip is marked B-N 3/5, although the top number is very hard to read. The number 21 is marked on the reverse side in white paint. See the photos.
