Rare Remington Model 1889 Export Bayonet with Scabbard
Description:
This is a knife style bayonet that measures 12 1/2" overall, and has an 8" straight, single-edged blade with single, stopped fullers. The blade has a mottled gray-brown patina with sharpening marks along the edge, some spots of dark, plum-brown freckling near the tip on the reverse, and within the fuller on the obverse. The maker name is clearly stamped within the obverse fuller: "REMINGTON ARMS Co. ILION, N.Y." The hilt has a single, forward-swept quillon, and the darkly mottled pommel has a fully functional press-stud and catch. The walnut grips are in very good shape, and have scattered handling marks and surface blemishes. Additionally, the reverse side grip is slightly lighter in tone than the obverse dur to it being the exposed side when in the scabbard. The scabbard has original blue remaining on protected areas, with the balance turned plum-brown, and the integral leather belt loop is intact and functional, but has moderate-heavy surface flaking. This is a fairly rare bayonet, and is in good condition overall.
