Very Rare Ornate Late Renaissance Era Bone Inlaid Germanic Sporting Crossbow, circa 1600-1650. This is a fascinating piece that came to us straight from a very old local collection of ancient European weapons. Crossbow measures 26 1/8" from ring to butt and 20 3/4" across the prod or bow. Wood stock has rich color with wonderful untouched finish and is elaborately inlaid with bone floral motifs and a boar, fox, and lion. There are also numerous tiny round pearl inlays incorporated into the designs. One flower inlay is missing but otherwise the stock is excellent with no damage or repairs. Bone bolt groove and carved cheekpiece with iron guard and double set triggers. Heavy iron bow with original bindings and string (many strands of the string have broken but it's incredibly well preserved for being 400 years old!). The latch or nut that would hold the string in place when cocked is missing. A stunning original 17th century crossbow that must be held to be appreciated! Very Rare Ornate Late Renaissance Era Bone Inlaid Germanic Sporting Crossbow, circa 1600-1650. This is a fascinating piece that came to us straight from a very old local collection of ancient European weapons. Crossbow measures 26 1/8" from ring to butt and 20 3/4" across the prod or bow. Wood stock has rich color with wonderful untouched finish and is elaborately inlaid with bone floral motifs and a boar, fox, and lion. There are also numerous tiny round pearl inlays incorporated into the designs. One flower inlay is missing but otherwise the stock is excellent with no damage or repairs. Bone bolt groove and carved cheekpiece with iron guard and double set triggers. Heavy iron bow with original bindings and string (many strands of the string have broken but it's incredibly well preserved for being 400 years old!). The latch or nut that would hold the string in place when cocked is missing. A stunning original 17th century crossbow that must be held to be appreciated! Antique muzzleloaders and antiques which fire obsolete cartridges may be shipped internationally however it is the responsibility of the buyer to know and abide by their local laws and provide proof that the antique arm is legal to receive and own. Payment can be made by money order, banker's check, personal check, credit card (no additional fees), or bank wire. Please allow 7-10 business days for clearance on personal checks. If paying by credit card please call us directly to process your order. Items are professionally packed and shipped USPS Priority Mail with insurance coverage for the sale price and signature required for delivery. Items valued over $5,000.00 are shipped Registered Mail. Buyer pays actual shipping costs with no added charge for packing materials or handling. We describe items accurately and thoroughly. If an item has been misrepresented or significant defect overlooked you may return it for a full refund (minus return shipping costs) within 3 days of having received it.
