FINE PAIR OF ORIGINAL GAUNTLETS FOR AN ITALIAN ARMOR CIRCA 1560-80. 9 ½” overall length with 5 ½” pointed cuff. 5 metacarpal plates and a knuckle guard with “roped” embossed panel. Metacarpal plates handsomely sculpted with “V” notches at the middle. Fluted and ribbed finger plate with only one partial finger and fragments of the original leathers for three fingers. Thumb plates missing but the hinges remain. Partial, illegible maker’s touch mark at the rear top of the right cuff. All brass rivets remain. Nice patina with very fine dark salt and pepper metal surfaces. All original and fine. For very nearly identical gauntlets see the Armour # A50, Wallace Collection Vol. I, Plate 31.
