EPHRAM GILBERT PERCUSSION .40 CALIBER
Description: This interesting percussion long rifle is built with what is known as a "Mule Ear Lock" so called due to the distinct ear above the hammer, this action is unique in the fact that the hammer is drawn to the side instead of over the top of the lock. This particular rifle was built by the patent holder himself Ephram Gilbert of Rochester. Overall condition of this piece of history is quite good for its age, the rifling in the bore is still strong and although lightly corroded, it has no major pitting. The external metal condition is good, as shown in the photos the rifle has a brown patina and appears to be painted with some form of sealant which has preserved the iron. The stock is also in good condition, with the only noticeable flaw being a crack forming in front of the lock bolt on the left side. There also appears to be a screw missing from the upper tang.
