ANTIQUE Winchester 1876 .45-60 W.C.F Mfg. 1881
Description: ANTIQUE Winchester 1876 Centennial .40-60 W.C.F ORIGINAL FINISH with added Lyman No 1. Tang Peep Sight For full photo album ask us for the link! The 1876 International Exhibition in Philadelphia occurred on the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the new Winchester Model 1876 was named the ‘Centennial Rifle’ due to being introduced at this time. Production began in June of 1877. This particular rifle was manufactured in 1881. Holding a 28" round barrel, chambered for the 40-60 cartridge with a magazine tube reaching the length of the barrel carrying 15 rounds. The front iron sight is original. However, the rear sight seems to have been modified at some point to fit a different elevator. Although it is a V-notched Buckhorn sight correct for the model, it is hard to say this is its original sight, but it very well could be. The upper tang is factory drilled and tapped for a peep sight, this particular model having a Lyman No.1 Tang Peep Sight having a fold-down aperture with 0.042″ diameter or 0.110″ diameter when folded, hole spacing 2.175″ on centers. Very Good, especially considering its age. Overall, the condition of this rifle for being 144 years old, is pretty dang good. The barrel holds a large portion of its original bluing worn down to a nice brown patina. The magazine tube does not hold much of its original bluing, it does however hold the matching brown patina look with some rust speckling throughout. The receiver has been worn down with some scuffs and scratches accumulated throughout its lifetime also showing off the brown patina, with its original bluing shining through underneath. The hammer, lever and butt-plate show little to no original finish, holding speckling throughout. The stock has a nice wood to metal fit, with overall handling marks free of any cracks or chips. Same for the forearm good wood to metal fit, free of any cracks or chips, only having one spot being a deeper gouge in the wood. The bore is in excellent condition being it has been relined showing off bright & shiny rifling. Appearing to be in perfect working condition this would make someone a nice collectible shooter!
