Extremely rare "GOLD DUST" San Francisco Whiskey Bottle
Description: "Gold Dust" whiskey bottle - western back-bar/saloon bottle. San Francisco business owners N. Van Bergen and Louis Holts contracted with the Barkhorse Bros. of Louisville KY. in 1874 and became the sole agent for Gold Dust Whiskey on the West Coast from their San Francisco office. In 1880 they became sole proprietors of the Gold Dust brand. This ultra rare aqua color specimen was dug up in central California some time ago and has never been properly cleaned of the dirt inside. This bottle has the appearance of the earlier 1870's bottle but is actually 1880. An 1870's specimen in green-amber sold for over $30,000 last year.
Gold was California's claim to fame, and in the late 1890's Van Bergen created the holy grail of back-bar bottles with a wonderful reversed glass image celebrating the miners' of California (see last image). If that one were to ever come up for sale it would sell in the strong five figures.
Condition is near perfect. Long air bubbles and applied top.
