Description:
The McClellan saddle was a riding saddle designed by George B. McClellan, a career Army officer in the U.S. Army. His saddle design was adopted by the Army in 1859 and continued to be a success until the US Army's last horse cavalry was dismounted late in WWII.
The brass rings & horn have turned a dark butterscotch patina. Some restoration has been done as the headstrap & hindstrap appear to have been replaced. One stirrup marked 'B.M. Co.-U.S.'; other marked 'U.S. 1918 N.S.' This saddle includes double horse hair girths with markings E.B. Co. & JBCT. Completing the ensemble is a U.S. marked blanket. Excellent condition as restored.
