Union of South Africa Artillery Sword by Hobson & Sons
Description: This is a private purchase sword, made ca. 1950, that measures 41" overall with a 34 7/8" straight, single-edged blade with 2/3 length single fullers and scrollwork embellished etched panels. The blade has a bright nickel patina with scattered specks of dark freckling throughout. The ricasso is marked “HOBSON & SONS / (LONDON) LTD. / LONDON" on the reverse, and the Royal South African crest on both etched panels. The hilt has the typical three branch guard with single forward-swept quillon, and has evenly distributed spots of dark brown freckling throughout. The shagreen grip is intact, although slightly discolored in a few spots, and has an intact braided wire wrap. The sword comes with an original undented metal scabbard that has the same spots of dark brown freckling as the hilt. This is a handsome, British-made South African military sword, and rates good-very good condition overall. SOLD Manufacturer: South Africa Model: Sword |
