Fantastic WWII Wermacht Sword by F. Hörster
Here we present an antique Nazi Third Reich Lion Head Army Officer’s Sword, made by F. Hörster in Solingen, Germany circa 1940. Generally speaking, swords were not extremely practical for combat by the time the Second World War came around; however, they were still prized for dress uniforms and status symbols in the Third Reich for military and even party members. They were worn at formal ceremonies, weddings, parties, parades and funerals. The Wermacht, Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarines and sundry other Nazi affiliates all had their own swords and styles.
This specimen represents the design of the Heer, the German Army. Perhaps the most eye-catching feature of this sword is the lion head pommel with eyes made of red gems. There is an eagle on top of a swastika with outstretched wings on the langet. These pieces are all of brass. The ricasso is marked “F. Hörster/Solingen”. It is in fine condition.
